The role of the technical officials is to ensure the game is played in a fair and safe manner and within the rules. Refereeing is the most physical active as they are on-court and “call” the game. Other technical officials perform various roles on the scoretable and statistics and further information about each role is given below.
Jenny is an actuary, being a partner in the global professional services company Aon, and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. At Aon, Jenny is responsible for overseeing the operations and growth strategy including governance, risk, liability management, business strategy, resource management and regulatory compliance for the smart Monday suite of products.
Jenny has led the BNSW Board in recent years in governance and finance. She is a passionate basketballer and has been involved in coaching for many years.
Jenny has been the Chair of BNSW from 1st of January 2019 and Chairs the Board Governance Committee.
Paul has been involved in basketball for over five decades, notably being a three-time NSW Referee of the Year and officiating at numerous Australian Junior Championships and several international assignments including World University Games in Japan and Yugoslavia and the FIBA Oceania Championships. Paul has officiated in the NBL with 187 games in 12 years. A former Chair of the Board and was awarded his life membership of BNSW in 2007.
Paul is the Chair of the Country Committee, a member of the Finance and Audit Committee and a Director of IFMG.
Lauretta is a Principal at a High School in Western Sydney. She played in the WNBL in the 1980’s and represented NSW from 1979-1982.
Lauretta has been involved in basketball as a referee, coach and statistician over many years. She is currently the Chairperson for the Australian Basketball Statistics Committee and has coordinated the statistics for Women’s World Basketball Championships, World Cup, Wheelchair Basketball Championships and the Sydney Olympics and Paralympics.
Lauretta is a Director of Sports Stadium Management, sits on the Metropolitan Advisory and Female Participation Steering Committees.
Tom has spent his life deeply embedded in basketball and was awarded Life Membership of BNSW in 1995. Most recently he served as the BNSW Company Secretary from 2016-2018, as part of his 38-year tenure with Basketball NSW.
Tom’s career has followed the traditional path on NSW basketball, firstly as a valued volunteer at the association level in coaching and player development, leading to his progression onto an association board. Throughput 1980’s Tom was a member of BNSW’s Executive Committee and fulfilled an important role in managing three Sydney Basketball Councils.
As a full-time administrator, over the past 38 years Tom has undertaken various BNSW staff roles in a number of different functional areas.
Lisa is a Chartered Accountant and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Lisa brings over 20 years of extensive financial experience in tax, business advisory and commercial acumen, within a range of local and international industries and in both private and non-profit sectors. Her professional career encompasses Crowe Horwath Findex, Colliers International and Coca Cola.
Lisa is the Chair of a non-profit organisation in the Education sector and has a passion for sports. For many years, she has managed basketball teams and has been on courtside on a weekly basis.
Lisa is the BNSW Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee and is a Director of Sports Stadium Management.
Steve is a senior strategy & technology advisor to Boards and C-Level executives, experienced audit & risk committee member and company director. He originally qualified as a Chartered Accountant and has served as managing director, Australia of the global creative agency Imagination; principal, management consulting with Arup, the design and engineering firm and in consulting leadership roles at several global IT services firms including DXC, SMS Management & Technology, Fujitsu, CGI and Cognizant.
In his executive role as Practice Director - Australia at GHD Digital, Steve advises private and public sector clients in the energy, water, built environment and infrastructure sectors on the digital transformation of their assets, operations and business models so they can rapidly adapt to change and remain competitive.
As client and consultant, banker and borrower, investor and CEO, Steve has built, bought and sold several businesses, and been involved in several start-ups in the digital, construction and professional services sectors. He is an accomplished author and public speaker.
Steve has been a keen sportsman for most of his life, involved in sports administration and not-for-profit organisations, including as Chairman of the Bayswater Lawn Tennis Club in Perth.
Steve is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Directors, a Committee Member for Regional Development Australia (RDA), Sydney, and a Member of the Business Dynamism & Competitiveness Advisory Committee for CEDA.
