I AM A GIRL I CAN DO ANYTHING

I AM A GIRL –  is a program run by Basketball NSW that aims to create a platform to encourage females of all ages to play, referee, coach, officiate and administrate BASKETBALL. The program provides pathways and assists in the development of female role models.

This program is supported by the New South Wales Governments Strategic Focus on women and girls in sport through the ‘Her Sport Her Way’ program and basketballs goal to move towards gender equality.

The I AM A GIRL program is a part of the overall NSW Legacy Program Pillars, which includes:

  • Female Leadership Scholarship Program.
  • Education and participation programs delivered in partnership with Indigenous Basketball Australia and Savannah Pride.
  • Delivery of a basketball-specific ‘Daughters and Dads’ program.
  • Delivery of culturally specific ‘Daughters and Dads’ program delivered in partnership with Savannah Pride.
  • School holidays programs are delivered state-wide.
  • 3×3 Basketball Tournaments delivered state-wide.

A number of activations will be rolled out each year leading up to the FIBA Women’s World Basketball Cup 2022.

I AM A GIRL

COME ‘N’ TRY SESSIONS

FREE Come & Try for girls aged 7 to 16 years.

These free sessions will give you a taste of all the different aspects of basketball in a safe and supportive learning environment meant to inspire the next generation of female basketballers. It doesn’t matter if you are walking on the court for the first time or a seasoned pro, all skill levels and abilities are welcome.

LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The I AM A GIRL (IAAG) Leadership Scholarship Program is proudly supported by the NSW Government and Basketball NSW as part of the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup legacy program.

The I AM A GIRL Leadership Scholarship Program is offered FREE to selected female players, coaches, referees, statisticians, scoretable officials, team managers, and administrators and includes a 12-month holistic program designed to encourage and inspire women and girls right across NSW.

Expression of Interest are closed.

The Aim

The I AM A GIRL Leadership Scholarship Program aims to provide additional education and specialised training to develop skills in basketball, teamwork, interpersonal skills, knowledge of the game as a whole and in their area of interest.

After the program, all participants will be involved in a community project of their choice. They impart their newly gained skills and experiences and inspire the next generation of basketballers to achieve greatness. Ensuring the legacy continues!

Each I AM A GIRL Leadership Scholarship holder will take part in a unique experience to their respective area of interest in basketball.

Program Outline

The first intake of the I AM A GIRL program will commence in July 2021 and will conclude in June 2022. The program includes;

  • 6-8 online education sessions.
  • Access to guest speakers from a variety of topics and backgrounds.
  • Belonging to, connecting with, and being a part of an inclusive network of like-minded individuals who are committed to empowering women and girls to achieve.

As a scholarship holder, your commitment to the program includes;

  • Attending the online sessions and any follow-up activities.
  • Attendance at your unique experience.
  • Undertaking a community event after the program.
  • Opportunity to take part in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Scholarship Program Event.
