What is the Talented Athlete Program?

The Talented Athlete Program (TAP) is a specialist junior talent development program conducted by Basketball NSW in conjunction with the NSW Office of Sport.

TAP targets the State’s best junior school age athletes and is also fully supported by the NSW Department of School Education and the Catholic Education Office.

TAP is a single camp-based program

TAP is a single camp-based program that aims to expose selected athletes to the NSW/Australian Style of Play and concepts of play on the court. Off the court, athletes are exposed to various topics such as:

Athlete Coping Skills, Social Networks, Self-Regulation, Mental Toughness and Injury Prevention as the camp aims to be a holistic learning opportunity to the athletes to set them up with not only pre-elite athlete skills, but skills for life.

2022 Information

Fifty (50) athletes are chosen (25 each from the Country and Metropolitan Regions).  The camp is held at the Sydney Academy of Sport in Narrabeen. It is staffed by the Basketball NSW High Performance Department and is a live-in camp so athletes are required to stay overnight and be present for the duration of the camp.

All athletes are required to bring school work with them to complete as supervised study periods will be held each day.  Athletes must bring enough work for 1.5-2hrs per day for the duration of the program.
