2024 Basketball NSW State Participant Fees

The Basketball NSW State Participant Fees are paid by participants, the fees fall into two categories:

Category 1  = is for associations that DO participate in our Waratah Junior or Senior League Competitions.

Definition / Notes

  • Senior – is for players who played in a structured competition and have reached or will reach the age of 18 by the 31st of December in that year.
  • J 12- 17 – is for junior players aged 12 through to 17 who play in a structured competition and have reached or will reach that age by the 31st of December in that year.
  • J 8 – 11 – is for junior players aged 8 through to 11 who play in a structured competition and have reached or will reach that age by the 31st of December in that year.
  • J < 8 – is for junior players aged under 8 who play in a structured competition and have reached or will reach that age by the 31st of December in that year.
  • Other – covers those participants who do not play in a structured competition,  so for those who are still learning the skills of the game, plus those who only referee, coach, manage teams, scoretable officials, statisticians, committee members, directors, volunteers, etc.
  • Inclusion – is for players who are involved in any of the following programs, wheelchair basketball, walking basketball, or for people with an intellectual impairment.
  • 14-Day pass – this exclusive offer is open only to first-time participants and is limited to one purchase per association for where they are seeking to play.

*Basketball Australia Game Development Levy

Commencing the 1st of January 2024, Basketball Australia is introducing a “Game Development Levy” for all players, which is $5 plus GST.

For 2024 Basketball NSW is absorbing this new fee, that is, we will pay BA the game development levy on each player registration.

Q. My child wants to play basketball, what do I do?

A. At Basketball NSW we have grown to over 80 affiliated associations across the State, to find your closest association just click on the “Where Can I Play” link from our homepage and enter your postcode.

Q. Can my child try basketball before we join?

A. Yes, we offer a 14-day pass, please ask the association for more information, you will need to complete a registration form to receive access to the 14-day pass.

Q. How do I join?

A. Once you have found the association that is closest to you, ask them about the learn-to-play programs or competitions that they have to offer, they will help you with matching you to a program or competition that suits you.

You will need to complete a membership form, the link to the form will be accessible from their website.  Once you agree to the terms and conditions and pay the relevant fees, you are ready to start playing basketball..

Q. How much does it cost to register?

A. The fee charged depends on the age of the participant, you will need to pay the correct membership fee for the age group, this fee includes the State fee.  The association will advise you of fees that need to be paid.

Q. How do I join an association?

A. The association will help you with the process you need to follow, you will need to complete a membership form, agree to the terms and conditions and pay the relevant fees.

Q. Why do I need to pay the State fee?

A. Our associations are known as affiliated members, by paying the State fee, both players and associations enjoy a number of benefits, click HERE to learn more.

Q. What happens if I don’t pay the State fee?

A. If you decide not to pay the State fee, you cannot play basketball at any of our affiliated associations.

You may be able to find another provider who offers basketball in your area that is not affiliated, and you will need to ask them about the benefits they offer.

Q. How long is a membership valid for?

A.
New Member – If you are registering for the first time once you have completed a membership form, agreed to the terms and conditions, and paid the relevant fees your membership is valid for 12-months from the date of the transaction.
Excludes the 14-day pass.

Existing member renewing within 30 days of expiry – If you renew your membership within 30-days of it expiring, your new expiry date is 12-months from the previous expiry date. E.g. expires 15/1/2023, you renewed 29/1/2023, your new expiry date is 15/1/2024.
Excludes the 14-day pass.

Existing member renewing more than 30 days past expiry – If you renew your registration more than 30 days after expiry, your new expiry date is 12-months from the date you have completed a registration form, agreed to the terms and conditions and paid the relevant membership fees.
Excludes the 14-day pass.

Q. I have not received my Basketball NSW Registration Card, am I registered?

A. Basketball NSW ceased producing membership cards late in 2016. If you have completed a registration form, agreed to the terms and conditions, and paid the relevant membership fees, you are registered. Please ensure you keep your receipt as proof of payment.

Q. How can I find out my expiry date?

A. Visit your member profile then from the menu on the left-hand side choose ‘History’, then under the section heading ‘Membership Periods’, the date that is displayed under the ‘Membership End Date’ is the date your membership expires/expired.

Q. Can I get a refund on my membership fee?

A. Once you partake in any basketball activity (playing or training), no matter how long the duration, nor the number of times the opportunity to request a refund has passed. More info on BNSW refund policy can be found here

Q Why are the fees are unbundled?

A. The reason the membership fees are unbundled is to ensure that our sport complies with the Competition and Consumer Amendment (Payment Surcharges) ACT 2016 and also for GST, the State fee is GST applicable where the association fee may or may not be GST applicable, it’s subject to whether the association is registered for GST
