New South Wales athletes from around the State have been selected into the extended Australian squads for the FIBA Oceania Under 17 Championships which will be played in Guam from the 9-16 July, 2017.

The winner of the FIBA U17 Oceania Championships is the first phase of the qualification process for the 2019 FIBA Under 19 World Championships.

Part of the selection process for these athletes was their performance at the recent Basketball Australia Under 18 Australian Junior Championships. A special mention must go to all of the selected athlete’s teammates and coaches; the individual success that these athletes have achieved is a reflection of the success that their respective teams were able to achieve.

“This is a great recognition and reward for all of these athletes for the extreme amount of hard work they continue to put in toward their development. I would like to on the athletes’ behalf also thank the volunteer coaches in NSW that give up their time to help the athletes get better every day, this is also a great reflection of your work” said Nathan Kirwan the State Coaching and Development Manager for Basketball NSW.
