Basketball NSW is thrilled to share with the basketball community that the Spalding Waratah Senior League has just been released for the 2023 season.

In what will be a huge year for basketball within the state, there will be over 600 games across the seven divisions all starting on the 18th of March.

The Waratah Men’s competition will be stronger than ever with 20 teams set to travel across the state and showcase their talents. Hills Hornets are the reigning champions but with many other returning teams and a handful of newcomers, this season will be sure to keep the fans on the edge of their seat.

Lismore Storm will be re-joining Waratah Women’s division, showcasing strong talent for the growing girls’ programs in Far Northern NSW and after a successful 2022 season, the Canberra Nationals Academy will also bring their own starpower to the league. The Spalding Waratah Women’s division begins Week 5, on the 22nd and 23rd of April 2023.

For the first time in a number of years, the Spalding Waratah Senior League will have two Waratah Youth Women’s divisions. Dividing into Division 1 and Division 2, the 15 Waratah Youth Women’s teams will feature newcomers such as the Camden Valley Wildfire, Springwood Scorchers and Hawkesbury Jets.

After an excellent first round of the 2023 Spalding Waratah Under 20s Tournament, there’s no doubt that Waratah Youth Men season will also be hotly contested. With a combined 16 games over round one, the league has seen a big jump in players taking the next step in their basketball careers and moving up from our junior competitions across the state, including our MJL, SJL, NEJL, WJL and JPL.

As for the GTK Waratah Wheelchair League Powered by Spalding, nominations are yet to open but their season will be tipping off late June, Basketball NSW will announce at a later date the details around their schedule for the season.
