Over the past two weeks, the Basketball NSW High Performance team hosted the U13 & U14 Talented Athlete Program (TAP) Camps. Held at the Billbergia Indoor Sports Centre, the two separate camps bore witness to over 200 athletes from both Country and Metro.

The BNSW TAP camp had a large focus on developing athletes both on and off the court to assist athletes in all areas of their development. The on-court component of the camp focused on developing the individual athlete’s fundamental skill, as well as providing them an insight into the concepts of play that are implemented across the BNSW High Performance Programs.

The off-court component of the camp focused on several key areas including learning about the “BLUES” culture, developing a growth mindset, learning through reflective practice and scouting/film review. Athletes were also taught the importance of understanding mobility and movement principles through practical activities on court by BNSW Physiotherapy provider Adam Messenger from Momentum Physiotherapy

BNSW General Manager for Coaching and Education, Brett Coxsedge said that the two camps brought together the top athletes from all over NSW.

“The TAP camps have a rich tradition of being the starting point for many athletes as they progress along the player development pathway. Being able to have athletes on court together from both country and metro regions allows us to teach the same skills and concepts, whilst also introducing our “BLUES” culture to them” Coxsedge said.

BNSW Coach Education Manager Jarrod Moore also reflected on the importance that the camps  played in inspiring and developing coaches in the State.

“The area of Coach Development is crucial to the long-term future of the sport in NSW” Moore said.

“TAP has allowed us to provide some opportunities for coaches from associations to come together, learn by sharing their knowledge and ideas, with the goal to give back to the regions and the clubs that they come from.”

BNSW would like to say a huge thank-you to all the athletes and association coaching staff that dedicated their time to the program.
