THE LEGACY CONTINUES: BNSW UNVEILS EXCITING PLANS INDIGENOUS BASKETBALL PROGRAMS.

Basketball NSW is thrilled to unveil a series of initiatives set to redefine the basketball landscape with the BNSW Program transitioning into a new look and feel program now named ‘Our Mob Our Game’.

Over the past three years, the ‘BNSW x IBA’ Program has witnessed an extraordinary influx of young talent, with over 8000 boys and girls enthusiastically taking to the court through the Come & Try programs, spanning an impressive 140 activations across NSW.

With an average age of 12 and 30% of participants identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, the program is a shining example of inclusivity in sports.

Yet, these figures extend beyond mere numbers; they encapsulate the invaluable experiences and opportunities afforded to each player who embraced the sport through the program.

Such achievement owes much to the support of associations, councils, community groups, community leaders and the dedicated coaches who generously lent their time and expertise to growing the game.

With a newly signed MOU with Indigenous Basketball Australia, both organisations will continue to work together to promote and drive these programs. BNSW also continues to work with quality partners across the state, which has been key to reaching people who currently don’t have access to the game.

In a significant development for 2024, the newly rebranded program ‘Our Mob Our Game’ will transition into two options for all people, all abilities to participate in with ‘Come N Try’ and ‘Come N Play’.

Come ‘n’ Try is targeted at newcomers to the game, and will include a two-hour basketball skills session. Participants at the Come ‘n’ Try receive a Our Mob Our Game t-shirt valued at $39, and coaching from our qualified coaches – all for just $35.

Come ‘n’ Play is directed at boys & girls who have previously played or attended a Come ‘n’ Try session that builds upon their basketball foundation. These three-hour sessions offer skills, drills and gameplay. These registered participants will also receive a Our Mob Our Game reversible singlet valued at $55 and coaching from our qualified coaches – all for just $55.

Basketball NSW eagerly anticipates the continuation of its legacy, with a primary focus on creating more opportunities and enriching experiences for First Nations players of NSW.

Associations that may interested in hosting any of these programs are encouraged to reach out to Darren Allie our ICaLD Programs Manager  darren.allie@bnsw.com.au

Basketball NSW would also like to thank our previous partners of the BNSW x IBA Camps – 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and thank our continuing partners; Office Of Sport & NSW Government.

We are excited to usher in a new era for basketball here in New South Wales and we hope to see plenty of young, new players join us as part of our rebranded Our Mob Our Game Come ‘N’ Try and Come ‘N’ Play Programs.
