Basketball NSW is the governing body of basketball in the State of NSW. 

As a sport, we are aiming to achieve 100,000 + registered members by 2025.  We are also aiming to expand the number of teams participating in representative basketball, which means we need to increase the number of technical officials we have to service our game.

The work undertaken by a Technical Officials Development Officer is a key component towards facilitating the growth and development of technical officials across the State, reporting to the State Head of Technical Officials.

The role will assist in the delivery of the Basketball NSW Technical Officials Strategic Plan (this includes Scoretable officials and Statisticians), working with a network of referee instructors and raising the standard of referee education across the State. Building our community referee programs around a decentralized model creating a culture of inclusion and cohesion, creating the BIGGEST TRIBE of referees we have ever had to support the growth of our game

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist with the implementation of the Basketball NSW Officials Strategic Plan*
  • To manage and deliver the education program for the Junior Development Program (JDP) and to assist with the delivery of the education program for the Advanced Referee Program (ARP).
  • To liaise and assist the Spalding Waratah Junior League Referee Program Managers with rosters.
  • To organise, coordinate, support and conduct technical officials courses, this includes managing a network of referee instructors throughout the State.
  • To administer and maintain education records for all officials.
  • To perform talent identification activities by attending various leagues, tournaments and tours as required.
  • To assist with the coordination of other activities as directed.
  • To represent Basketball NSW at meetings as directed.

* The Basketball NSW Strategic Plan will be launched at the 2021 Basketball NSW State Conference in November 2021. Basketball NSW is currently in the last phase of conducting community research, and these findings will assist in building our sports strategic plan.

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN OTHER BASKETBALL ACTIVITIES?

If yes, that’s great, and we encourage our staff to be actively involved in the game in other capacities, such as coaching, being a team manager, refereeing right through, to just being a fan.

We get it, and we understand it, as basketball runs through the veins of a lot of our staff members.

The successful applicant can continue to undertake these activities in their own time, but this must be disclosed when applying for the role and must not present conflicts of interest in this role.

OTHER

Overtime is not paid in this position; pre-approved, rostered time off in lieu of overtime is offered.

Additional incentive plans may be available for these roles based on quantifiable deliverables for our programs. These will be discussed on successful completion of the probationary period.

Essential Requirements

  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • Current Referee Instructor and Assessor.
  • Experience in developing and implementing referee education and development programs.
  • Managing and working with volunteers in sport.
  • Delivering high-level customer service to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Is a self-starter and can work in both a team environment and on their own.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Passionate about sport and working at the grassroots level.
  • Is eligible to reside and work in Australia.

Desirable Criteria

  • Current/Former FIBA, NBL, WNBL or BNSW Senior League referee.
  • Experience in using both Google and Microsoft products.
  • Experience in using GameDay (aka Sports TG).
