South West Sydney Academy of Sport 2015/2016 Basketball Program Scholarship Information

The South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWSAS) implements high quality development programs across a number of sports, for talented young athletes from across south-west Sydney.

The Academy is implementing a Basketball program in association with local Associations and Basketball NSW. The focus of the program is to assist talent identified athletes to improve their individual performance based on a solid platform of skill development and sports education. The program will provide a unique opportunity for local basketballers looking to further their individual skill development and provide competition opportunities to support future state team selection and higher honours’.

The program will operate on an annual basis from October to April and include regular squad training sessions focusing on individual skill and sports education development. Team preparation sessions, games and inter – NSW Regional Academy events including the NSW Regional Academy Games, will form part of the program. The program may also include curtain raiser games for the Sydney Kings NBL and Sydney Flames WNBL.

In addition to on-court training sessions and competition opportunities, athletes will receive access to sport science testing and professional educational seminars, to assist with their personal off-court development.

ELIGIBILTY

Open to male and female Basketballers aged 12-15yrs in 2016 (Born 2004, 2003, 2002 and 2001)

− Registered with a Basketball NSW affiliated association (Camden Valley Wildfire, Liverpool Spartans, Macarthur Heat, or Wollondilly Razorbacks)

− Currently compete in the NSW Metropolitan Junior League (MJL), or Barrengarry Junior Conference.

− Reside, or attend a school, or play in the Campbelltown, Camden, Liverpool or Wollondilly LGA.

− Be committed to progressing to higher representation within the sport of Basketball.

BENEFITS

Scholarships are not in the form of a monetary sum, but rather enable athletes to participate in the Academy program which includes sports specific training workshops, camps and competition opportunities. These workshops include access to high level coaches, analysis of technique, sports science testing, sport psychology, nutrition, media training and drugs in sport awareness. An athlete levy applies to support athlete commitment.

ATHLETE LEVY

• An affiliation levy of $370.00 GST inclusive, applies to all successful athletes.

• The levy covers the full cost of participation in the program including the SWSAS merchandise kit (valued at RRP $240.00).

• The affiliation levy must be paid in full within 21 days of selection, or the scholarship offer will be automatically withdrawn, (unless agreed Board of Management arrangements have been confirmed).

• Note the Basketball Program may include activities whereby an additional cost maybe be incurred.
