SPALDING WARATAH WHEELCHAIR LEAGUE | EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST NOW OPEN

Basketball NSW is pleased to announce that in partnership with Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT that the 2021 Spalding Waratah Wheelchair League Expressions of Interest have now opened for athletes. 

Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT have opened up EOI’s for all potential athletes to submit their details and will aim to form eight competitive teams to compete in the league which will include Blacktown Storm, Canberra Gunners, Central Coast Crusaders, Hills Hornets, Illawarra Hawks, Macarthur Heat, Newcastle Hunters, and Sutherland Sharks.

The draw will feature four central rounds and with finals to be held on the 28th of August and 5th of September. 

The dates for the Central Venues are listed below.

  • 10th July – KBS (Blacktown)
  • 24th July – Minto
  • 7th August – Shellharbour
  • 21st August – Minto
  • Finals – 28th August & 5th September

Basketball NSW will spearhead the administration of the league and will provide the fixtures, referees, scorebench and officials while Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT will work with the athletes to create the teams that will battle it out.

Basketball NSW CEO Maria Nordstrom said she is excited to work with Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT in the formation of the 2021 Spalding Waratah Wheelchair League.

“Over the last few years, we have been working very closely with Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT, through collaboration and working closely with Mick Garnet and the Board of Wheelchair Sports NSW in the creation of more opportunities for people to play basketball, especially at the level that our Spalding Waratah League encompasses”. 

“Wheelchair basketball is one of the most popular sports for athletes with a disability, and we have worked hard with our affiliated associations to create opportunities for wheelchair basketball and we call upon anyone that is interested in playing to submit their Expression of Interest”, Nordstrom added.

Mick Garnett, Chief Executive Officer at Wheelchair Sports NSW, added “We’re excited to have Wheelchair Basketball included in the Waratah League for the first time ever. We hope to have hundreds of players from all around NSW and the ACT get involved.”
