The role of the technical officials is to ensure the game is played in a fair and safe manner and within the rules. Refereeing is the most physical active as they are on-court and “call” the game. Other technical officials perform various roles on the scoretable and statistics and further information about each role is given below.

In January each year, Basketball NSW selects athletes and coaches to participate in various Development Tours.
These Tours provide Country and Metro athletes with the opportunity to compete against each other, as well as against athletes from other States in Australia.
The Tours also allow coaches and athletes to gain experience in high-level tournament play, preparing them for potential involvement in State Teams in the future.
The focus of the Tours is development first and foremost and selections and preparations reflect as such.
Each year, upwards of 60 teams and 700 players, coaches and officials take part.
This event is targeted at participants identified as potential participants for the following years ACJBC.
In January eight NSW Metropolitan teams play against teams from each of the other states.
