2017 BNSW State Conference a success

Basketball NSW conducted its State Conference across the weekend, the theme of the conference was “It’s Our Game”.

Representatives from 35 affiliates from across the State gathered on Figtree Conference Centre in Sydney Olympic Park for two full days of activities which included informative sessions, workshops and meetings.

The conference tipped off with a Welcome from Maria Nordstrom, BNSW CEO as she presented the vision for our sport, that “Basketball the sport of choice in NSW” and the sports strategic map to excellence. HERE

The Chair of Basketball Australia Mr Ned Coten was our Keynote speaker, Ned presented the “The State of the Game” HERE

Other presentations on the day one included presentations by Graeme Allen the CEO of Dandenong Basketball on his experiences on running the largest basketball association in Australia, Simon Haire from Otium Planning Group on a NSW view of sports facilities requirements.

Other sessions conducted were on marketing Tools for Associations, Grant Application, Finance, Developing Female Athletes, Tribunal, the basics of Insurance, Increasing Female Participation, Building and Developing a Succesful Basketball program, Good Governance, Referee and Referee Coach Development and Aussie Hoops & Sporting Schools.

Conference participants ended day 1 with a cocktail party.

Sunday’s conference agenda included a joint presentation from Glen McGoldrick the CEO of Sports TG and from Basketball Australia Lisa Hasker and Amy Hawthorn on the National Registration System.

There were also three separate meetings held:

  1. Sydney Metropolitan Basketball – a discussion on association boundaries.
  2.  NSW Country Basketball Annual League Meeting
  3. 79th Annual General Meeting of Basketball NSW

At the 79th Annual General Meeting of Basketball NSW a special presentation was made to Bill Goodman who was awarded his Life Membership of Basketball NSW in 2016.

Kim Murphy (Sutherland) and Alex Bacic (Bankstown) were both awarded Life Membership of Basketball NSW.

Following a ballot, Paul Beale and Bob McGugan were also re-elected for a further 3-year term.
