I recently came across a great article written by Wayne Goldsmith, titled ‘The Teenage Tumble: Why Teenagers are Leaving Sport’, there is something in this for all of us, from parents, coaches, officials and administrators.
One of the paragraphs that really resonated with me was:
There’s Five critical questions all of us need to ask ourselves – and each other – every day – in everything we do in sport:
- Is this safe?
- Is it fun?
- Are the kinds learning something?
- Are their friends here?
- Will they come back next time?
If you can answer a resounding and confident YES to all of these questions, chances are, you’ll have more teenagers playing sport than you can handle!
