Basketball NSW has paid tribute to Sydney and NSW basketballer and BNSW Life Member Barbara Jansen after her passing on Thursday.  Barbara Jansen was one of the pioneers of Sydney basketball in the 60’s both as a player, coach and administrator.  Barbara was a member in 1961 of the very successful Barbarian women’s s team who until 1969 were undefeated in Sydney competitions and won 5 State Championships in this period.  Barbara represented NSW from 1962 to 1967 and was a member of the Australian championship-winning teams in 1963, 1966 and 1967.

Barbara was the first female to coach a state team being appointed Coach in 1967 for the NSW U18 team and was Assistant coach of the U18 team when they won Australian Championships in 1971 and 1972.  Barbara was involved as a coach and selector for both junior and senior women’s basketball in NSW.  She also dedicated many years to the development and management of the Western Suburbs Basketball Association and was named as a Life Member of both her Association and Sydney Basketball.

Barbara’s funeral will be held on Saturday, 02 September 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM at Mackay Family Funerals 249 Pacific Highway, Ourimbah NSW 2258.
