A valued member of the Sutherland Basketball Association family, Nev Nicholson passed away on Tuesday the 4th July. The Association were shocked to hear of Nev’s passing as he was a much loved member of the Sutherland Sharks.

Nev’s history with basketball commenced back in the early 1970’s when he was involved with the establishment of the Jannali Basketball Club from 1972 – 1986 and as one of the true builders of the Association in its infancy stage. He served as President and committee member during the first stage of construction of the stadium during late 1970’s to the early 1980’s. And years later was Manager for a no. of Men’s teams in the Sutherland and St George Basketball Associations. Nev became a life member of Sutherland Basketball Association in 1990.

He was a true pioneer of basketball in the Shire and through the countless hours of work and dedication he has left a great legacy.

In the early 80’s Nev was the President of the Sydney Basketball Council that controlled the game in the Sydney and Metropolitan area. Nev was 85 years of age and is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Karen, son Dennis and their families which included 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

On behalf of the Basketball NSW Board, members and Staff we would like to pass on our deepest condolences to Nev’s family as well as many family and friends that have known him.

Nev’s funeral service will be held at:

Where:West Chapel, Woronora Memorial Park

121 Linden St, Sutherland,

When: Wednesday, 12th July 2017 at 2-30 PM.
