2023 GTK WARATAH WHEELCHAIR LEAGUE POWERED BY SPALDING ROUND 4 RECAP

Last Saturday, the 19th of August, the final regular season Round of the 2023 GTK Waratah Wheelchair League Powered by Spalding was underway at the Kevin Betts Stadium, Mount Druitt. 

With Finals looming, all athletes brought their best, and the incredible talent in the league was demonstrated throughout the thrilling matches that had spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the day, as teams battled it out for a spot in the Finals.

As per all previous Rounds, the energy present on game-day of Round 4 was nothing short of electric from players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators.Check out the scores, ladders, and top scorers in each Division from Round 4 below.

DIVISION 1:

  • Illawarra Hawks White 62 – All Stars 49
  • Illawarra Hawks Red 80 – Blacktown Storm 15 
  • Illawarra Hawks White 43 – Illawarra Hawks Red 73

A special addition to the Round 4 game-day activities was the presentation of the 2023 Commonwealth Games NSW (CGNSW) Athlete Grant Program to Breanna Fisk, one of the 40 2023 recipients. Peter Tate, the CEO of the NSW Division of the Commonwealth Games Association, attended Round 4 of the league and presented Breanna with her award.

Breanna, who is competing in the 2023 GTK Waratah Wheelchair League Powered by Spalding for Hills Hornets, was also announced as the 2023 Alex Fulcher Award Winner – congratulations Breanna on such an amazing achievement! CGNSW President, Michael O’Mara said, “Breanna epitomises all the remarkable qualities that Alex stood for, including determination, humility, fair play and energetic country spirit.”

With the conclusion of Round 4 of the GTK Waratah Wheelchair League Powered by Spalding marking the end of the regular season, it also meant that the teams who qualified for Finals have been determined!

Congratulations to Illawarra Hawks White, Illawarra Hawks Red, All Stars and Blacktown Storm from Division 1, and Hills Hornets, Canberra Gunners, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and Central Coast Crusaders from Division 2 – who will be battling it out for the championship title this coming weekend in their respective divisions!

Don’t forget that registrations are open for the Basketball NSW Wheelchair State Performance Program (SPP), which serves to identify, develop, and foster the skills of young athletes with classifiable limitations who aspire to compete at state, national and international levels of wheelchair basketball.

The program is designed to develop individual skills and learn team concepts which will enable participants to compete successfully at the National Championships and at an International level.
