Basketball NSW is thrilled to unveil the draw for the 2024 Spalding Waratah Senior League season, promising fans and athletes alike an unforgettable spectacle of skill and athleticism!

The countdown for the highly anticipated 2024 Spalding Waratah League season has begun, with just under a month until the March 16th tip-off. Basketball fever is sweeping across New South Wales – coming to a stadium near you.

Six divisions across the state are set and ready for battle, with a massive 40% growth in the total games for the season. The 20 adrenaline-fueled weeks of regular season competition will see 850 games played, allowing athletes ample chance to display their skills as they develop as a team, ensuring guaranteed not-to-miss action for spectators – weekly!

Amongst the highlights of the season is the 250 female athletes competing in standalone Waratah 1 and 2 Youth Women competitions, a remarkable turnout from the unwavering commitment of the athletes, associations, and working group alike.

That’s not it, though. Get excited for the 2024 Spalding Waratah Men’s division, to take flight in March! Will the returning Goulburn Bears, Moss Vale Magic and Springwood Scorchers take aim for the top spot? Will the repeating champions, Hills Hornets, go for the three-peat, or will another team take the crown? The competition promises to be fiercer than ever.

Meanwhile, the Waratah Women’s division has exploded from five to nine teams, including teams from the Central Coast Waves, Newcastle Falcons, Maitland Mustangs and the Murrumbidgee Mavericks. With home and away highlights, and a number of central venues, anticipation is running high for the April 2024 tip-off. Will the Coffs Harbour Suns defend their glory, or will a newcomer claim the throne?

Finally, the under 23 men’s competitions are ready to soar in 2024. With 26 teams across the Spalding Waratah 2 Youth Men division fighting for the top spots and their ticket into division one, it’s truly anyone’s game. Camden Valley Wildfire and Newcastle Falcons secured their place in the Spalding Waratah 1 Youth Men division, and are set to take the challenge against the other 10 teams.

As for the GTK Waratah Wheelchair League Powered by Spalding, nominations are yet to open but the season will be tipping off in June, Basketball NSW will announce at a later date the details around their schedule for the season.

The 2024 season will encompass three important themed rounds, which will undoubtedly see associations get involved. These rounds are:

  • ANZAC Round: 24th – 28th April 2024
  • Heritage Round: 31st May – 2nd June 2024
  • First Nations Round: 5th – 7th July 2024

Basketball enthusiasts, mark your calendars for the opening weekend of the Spalding Waratah League season, as it promises to deliver action-packed entertainment bigger and better than last year. As we eagerly await March 16, grab your club gear and make some noise!
