BNSW High Performance Paving the Way

2017 has been a successful year for the High-Performance Department with the team being active in the coach education & development space throughout the state.

Led by Nathan Kirwan, the department has been hard at work on the road ensuring there are opportunities for coaches throughout all regional and metropolitan areas within NSW.

This past year Shaun Roger, our new Coach Development Manager, has been active in organising opportunities for regional & metropolitan coaches with opportunities to broaden their knowledge.

This year Basketball NSW has been able to provide 25 Club Coach and 2 Association Coach Courses throughout the state with over 450 eager coaches attending. Shaun Roger has been a familiar face at a number of these courses but they could not all be delivered without this assistance of our committed accredited Club Coach Course Presenters. A big thank you to the following:

  • Chris Maginnity (Albury)
  • Jacob Jackomas (City of Sydney)
  • Martin McLean (Newcastle)
  • Michael D’Agostino (Hornsby)
  • Carmen Dederer (Orange)
  • Daniel Trikilis (Hills)
  • Tim Hill (Manly)
  • Alek Horenko (Norths)
  • Craig Robinson (Albury)

In conjunction with the delivery of coach education opportunities throughout the state, there have also been a variety of coach development opportunities that have benefited both coaches and athletes.

Throughout the duration of the year Basketball NSW have been able to bring coaches with international & professional coaching experience to run a series of coaching clinics; coaches such as Kevin Eastman (Long-time NBA Assistant Coach), Dave Love (Current NBA/Orlando Magic Shooting Coach), and Jacob Jackomas (CBA Assistant Coach) have graced our courts.

A special thanks must also go to Peter Lonergan from Basketball Australia who has been instrumental in providing education and development opportunities for coaches in NSW for several years, with 2017 being no different.

Basketball NSW still have a few remaining courses available for individuals to attend this year, please click HERE to see where the next available course is in your area.
